One of the dilemmas that construction investors or reconstruction of buildings of all types and purposes have, is certainly what kind of doors to choose. Our market offers a wide selection of typical doors and windows of all types, sizes, shapes, different structures, materials. Selection is usually made by the price of the  product that is very different within the same species. According to our current regulations in the field of construction physics, the joinery made profiles are classified into three groups according to the coefficient of thermal conductivity:

Group I: <0.35 W / mk
1. Tree
2. Plastics

Group II: 0,35-1,2 W / mk
1. Heat-isolated  aluminum - thermobridge
2. Heat-isolated steel profiles

Group III:> 1.2 W / mk
1. Aluminum
2. Steel

From the above data the order of the material coefficient of thermal conductivity can be seen as:
1. Wood
2. PVC
3. Mixed wood - aluminum
4. Heat-isolated aluminum - thermobridge
5. Aluminum cold.

The main categorization of air permeability and water permeability was carried out as follows - Class A, B, C, D (the quality is increasing from A to D, with D as the highest quality joinery).

Disadvantages of wooden doors, which were considered irreplaceable until recently, are numerous:
 • Sensitivity to humidity: Swelling and buckling (due to changes in humidity, wood swollens or drys out, and, thus, there comes to loosening of the strenght joints at the corners, laxness of the chains or the handling of difficult wing doors and windows or doors becomes heavier)
 • Bending of the joinery due to which poor sealing of the same occurs
 • Attack by forest pests, insects, wormholes and other (successfully protect chemical preparations for inpregnation and protection, but the same is not permanent and the procedure needs to be repeated periodically)
 • Finishing painting of the carpentry painting is also not permanent, so it needs to be refreshed or entirely renewed every two years, causing additional costs for maintenance
 • Durability of 20 years.

Data on sales of different types of building materials shows that the sale of windows and doors of wood decreases, while the production and sale of the facade windows, aluminum doors and hard plastic is continuously growing. PVC Joinery

What is PVC?

Polyvinyl chloride or PVC is a modern synthetic material and a very important member of the broad family of polymers. Chemical formula is CH2 = CHCl. Consisting of salt (57%) and oil (43%), PVC is less dependent on oil than any other thermoplastic. It is one of the first plastics that was commercially developed and it most widely used today.

PVC is a thermoplastic material. Thermoplastic materials are those that can be re-melted. Thermoplastic materials, warmed up to a certain temperature, transition into Tallinn, and by cooling, they transition into solid form (hardening).

Key Characteristics of PVC are:
 • Solid and light weight (resistant, light weight, excellent mechanical strength and hardness - are the key technical advantages for its use in the construction industry and construction)
 • Easy to process (PVC can be easily cut, shape, weld and connect in different forms. Due to these characteristics, it has become virtually irreplaceable in the production of windows, doors and other elements of doors and windows)
 • Durable (PVC is resistant to degradation, dry rot, corrosion, shock and abrasion. The longevity of the products is justified by the fact that 85% of world production made by PVC is used in building and constructions. For example, it has been calculated that more than 75% of total manufactured PVC pipes will have a life longer than 40 years with the potential use of up to 100 years)

This data is drawn from the German calculation list whereby the same window has three different prices based on the quality of manufacturers' group. Former number one manufacturer  in Europe, Kömmerling, has been in a major crisis during last 5-6 years and has fallen way behind in the development, and his place among the top three is hanging on the old glory, which is true since it was bought by Trockal, one of the bad producers. Manufacturer Veka is the number one producer of the composition windows in the world. The manufacturer Rehau is the largest producer of plastic products and polymers in the world and number one in Europe when it comes to window composition. They have their distribution in Serbia and they deliver exclusively profiles that are extruded in Germany, unlike Kömmerling and Veka that donot ship profiles from recycled materials. Another company worth mentioning, is Brugmann PVC profiles and their PVC joinery that can be seen in many homes, because the relationship of quality and price, fast delivery and guarantees were often crucial elements in buying PVC.


When it comes to fetter, we need to make sure that it is tinkeled with 6-valenced zinc (some call this titan, and it is visible  by pure white galvanization), which is now the highest quality protection. The largest chains manufacturer in total is Roto and at number 2 comes Siegenia, considered by some as the best. Our market still uses WinkHaus whose basic production are locks and cylinders, and fetters for windows as just a casual activity. Apart from them, there are still some smaller fetters' manufacturers. Fetter is not very important item because all the bonds today have oversized quality, so even bad types of fetters like Aubi and AGB are better than what we acually need. The biggest differences in the quality of the chains are  only seen on testing in salt bath until all the bonds exceed the minimum standards and capacity of the opening. Possible differences are in the profile, and they are seen in the case today when, for example, Rehau and Veka work with so-called 20th century generation of polymers, while the bad ones work with approximately 26th to 17th generation of polymers. The important differences in the generations of polymers are in the UV stability, environmentally acceptable, which are less harmful to man, temperature stability, increased elasticity,etc.

Maintenance of PVC
PVC joinery is extremely easy to maintain, but it should not be ignored. PVC doors and windows can be washed occasionally with an ordinary detergent for washing dishes, chains should be wet with some machine oil, while the O ring should be greased annually with paraffin oil (it is recommended to do it before winter).

With some manufacturers you can buy a set for maintenance. These small windows maintenance requirements ensure that its long-term functionality remains unchanged.


Aluminum is the material with the most sophisticated applications in the global construction industry, and in recent years it has been increasingly used in our construction industry as well.

Basic Characteristics of Aluminum are:
 • Ease
 • Firmness
 • High resistance to corrosion
 • Implementation of an extremely heat and electricity
 • Unmagnetism
 • Excellent heat and light of the refusal,
 • Persistence and Infragility at low temperatures.

These are just some of the advantages of aluminum construction in comparison to other materials. Certainly one of the most obvious - the possibility of various applications: for windows, doors, glass facades, partitions, windows, stair railings and other, blinds, mosquito nets, accessories etc..

Today, there are mainly three types of products that are being produced:
 • Doors and Windows made of aluminum profiles without interrupted thermal bridge, called "cold" profile with &> 5.8 VV / mk. These products are used in public buildings, shops and within the building. The biggest disadvantages of these windows and doors are great heat loss and condensation.
 • Doors and Windows made from thermally insulated profiles with thermobridge used on the facades of residential buildings due to savings in energy belongs to the class II behind the wood and PVC. It also belongs to the group l, depending on the type of profile;
 • A combination of aluminum and wood:
      • Wood-coated aluminum
      • Aluminum timber
      • Aluminum coated wood (note: price increases from 1 to 3).

According to the method of opening we distinguish:
 • Turning window
 • Uncovered window
 • Uncovered-Turning window.

They open by sliding to the left or right side. Glazed insulated glass is made. The mechanism for closure prevents forced opening of the external side.

General technical properties of aluminum windows and doors are: - excellent thermal properties (aluminum frames are made of two aluminum profiles which are connected with special material with high thermal resistance and which do not touch, and these technical solutions significantly reduce the coefficient of heat leaks) 
 • No condensation system (profiles with interrupted thermal bridge completely prevent condensation on the inside of aluminum construction)
 • Unlimited freedom of formatting (production and the way of opening this type of aluminum windows, doors and windows according to customer's request)
 • Complete sealing (sealing is done with EPDM seals, which are placed as central in cattle, the wing and as seals on the glass)
 • Free choice of colors (finishing profile made the electrochemical dyeing process in the color of your choice to tone-map or plastic color RAL by universal tone-map). In addition RAL requires the fulfillment of the following characteristics:
      • Profiles for making doorposts must serve as the solid backbone for years

Joinery made of aluminum is characterized by strength and durability of Profile (the tearing strength is 2200 kg/cm2). The thermal characteristics is weaker than PVC so that the heat loss is higher. The final surface is anodizing or electrostatic painting with baking - plastification. The first anodizing belongs to the permanent treatment, and maintenance costs are reduced to a minimum. Plastification depends on the quality of the same and can bring a lot of problems if it is not done with quality and the repaires are almost impossible or obviously expressed. The cost of the product is 30-50% higher compared to wood, and for aluminum-wood it reaches up to 100%. Longevity of the joinery depends on the quality and durability of the shackles that is embedded, because the substitute of faulty chains is not complicated, but it requires additional material resources. Mechanical damage is possible and they are reflected on the worse sealing windows. By using two-component adhesives, the requirements for obtaining the C and D class fullfilled. Wooden windows and doors cost the consumer in the long term, two or three times more than PVC and AL doors and windows. PVC and AL doors and windows do not have the need for surface treatment, not they should be treated or maintained with chemicals. Reliable, wood is the only material reproduced by nature, but natural wood can not cover all the needs. Therefore, the arguments show clear advantages corresponding of PVC and AL doors and windows in relation to the other, from the standpoint of protection of forests, less need for energy (it is necessary to reduce the need for resources, because sources are not inexhaustible), a smaller drop of all kinds of pollutants, which also contributes significantly to the protection of environment.
